We are Daydream Believers.
The class of 2017 were asked to come up with a concept to promote the creative industries and the vocational nature of the college and in particular our HND Graphic Design Course. The proposal we chose to implement was created by Niamh Curran and Holly Mc Nie. They became our first Student Ambassadors and later the same year they delivered workshops across 6 schools in Edinburgh.
In June of 2017, twenty S2 and S3 pupils became our first ever Edinburgh College Daydream Believers. The overall aim of the week-long project was to support 12 -14-year olds to utilise creative processes, similar to those taught at College and used in the work environment. By building the experience around the concept of Day Dreaming the project focused on how pupil’s own creativity could be applied to a learning experience.
With the support of our subsequent Student Ambassadors, we looked at ways that we could develop the daydream experience and use some of our partners from industry to have a more direct input and influence on the curriculum and to help support the work that is already being carried out by our teachers in schools promoting creative thinking, as an integral multipurpose ability across the curriculum.
The Daydream Believers web resource is an innovative way to up-skill our teachers and to facilitate experiential ways of student learning based on play, passion, context and purpose.
